  • Vaccinations - RSV - Respiratory Syncytial Virus vaccination - aged 75-79 years - start 21st September

We are now booking eligible patients in for their RSV vaccinations - RSV is a new vaccination to protect you from the Respiratory Syncytial Virus, RSV for short.  This is a respiratory virus that can lead to significant illness or hospital admission, particularly over the Winter months.  It is currently being offered to those aged 75 to 79 inclusive.  It is not an annual vaccination, ideally if you are in the 75-79 age bracket you should have this before having your flu and/or covid vaccinations and book in as soon as possible.  We have clinics running on 21st and 28th September.  We should not offer this vaccination at the same time as Flu or Covid (or Shingles), it is best had on its own.  We would advise patients to wait a couple of weeks before returning for the Flu and Covid vaccination, this is so that your immune system has time to produce a response to the RSV vaccine.  You could choose to have it after the flu/covid vaccination but the illness it protects you from is prevalent earlier in the season than Flu and therefore it is best to get this first if you are the right age.  You can have this up until the day before you turn 80 years old.   We are happy for patients to book in to different clinics for both RSV and flu/covid.  See the information on Flu/covid below.

  • Vaccinations - RSV - Respiratory Syncytial Virus vaccination - pregnant women 28 weeks gestation until birth - start 21st September

We are also offering this vaccination to pregnant women from 28 weeks until birth.  This is so that you pass on some immunity to this respiratory virus to your baby.  Please call us to book in - you can also attend the clinics on 21st or 28th September to get this vaccination early.

  • Vaccinations - Flu and Covid vaccinations start 3rd October 2024

This year we are not allowed (by NHS England) to start vaccinating patients against Flu until 3rd October onwards (much as we would like to start earlier!).  We are therefore inviting patients to book into our Saturday clinics on 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th October 2024.  We would very much like to do most of the vaccinations during October if we can.  We will add additional appointments and extend the clinic timings as people book in.  We know that generally our patients prefer Saturday mornings.   This will be our first priority and we will add some afternoons as we go along.  We are still finalising the staffing through October so if you don't see an appointment time that works for you, please check again and you may find additional capacity has been added.  NHS England would prefer us to 'co-administer' Flu and Covid vaccines (give both at the same time), we are happy to do this, but equally if you would prefer to attend separately for each, this is not a problem either!

Eligibility for Flu and Covid is broadly the same as last Autumn, Aged 65 and over and those aged 18 to 64 with underlying conditions.  Invitations will start going out from Friday 6th September.

  • Vaccinations - Children aged 2 and 3 - Flu (nasal spray) - start 21st September

We will shortly send out invitations to parents to book nasal spray for their 2 and 3 year olds, we are just finalising where to place these clinics and will update this page as soon as we can.

  • Vaccinations - Happy Booking!

Please always take up these offers of immunisations, whilst these vaccinations do not prevent you from getting these illnesses, they can significantly shorten the duration of illness and reduce the likelihood of admission to hospital.   Always try to use the booking link we send you if you can.  This keeps the phones free for those who don't have smart phones or access to the Internet.  Our colleagues at Pier Health Extra will be supporting us with vaccinating those who are housebound or in Care Home settings so that we can focus on those who can attend the surgery.  We pride ourselves in getting the system right so there are no queues!

Please direct any other questions either through Ask My GP or by email to bnssg.TLSenquiries@nhs.net (so we keep the phones free)

Important Notice: Measles Prevention and In-Office Safety Measures

With the national outbreak of measles reaching Bristol and North Somerset, it's essential to take immediate preventive measures. Measles is highly contagious, but preventable through the MMR vaccination and other options available at our practice.

If you or a family member might be infected, please do not visit the surgery. Instead, call us first. You will speak with a GP via phone and then, if necessary, be given a specific time for a safe visit. We may ask you to wait in your car upon arrival to protect yourself and others, especially our immunocompromised patients. Please provide our reception team with detailed information during your call to help us assess any infection risks.

For additional information on measles, visit the NHS website.

Vital Protection: Ensure Your Child is Vaccinated with MMR

The MMR vaccine is crucial not only for protecting against measles but also against rubella (German measles) and mumps, which can lead to viral meningitis. Achieving herd immunity requires 93-95% immunisation coverage, and current rates are below this threshold, contributing to the spread of measles.
